What’s up party people?!
March marked the official start of the DJ Nathan Kabat 2026 wedding season! We had a couple one-off events earlier in the winter, including a winter gala at Mount Mercy University, and a small prom / winter formal in February! But, now that weddings are rolling in closer to full speed, I expect most of my focus will be spent recapping them here for you in the months to come! If you’re a DJ reading this, make sure to read to the end for an update and something you’ll hopefully find fun & useful :)

On March 6th I made my way up on a rainy morning to the HarMac in Cedar Rapids to DJ at Stephanie and Devin’s Wedding. As this one was the first wedding of the year, I was setting up my gear with some nervousness for sure, there is always a pressure to put on a great show, but ESPECIALLY when it’s the first one of the season - gotta start off strong!
The timeline for this wedding was planned to be simple, aiming for maximum socializing & guest connection in the first half of the day, and maximum dancefloor energy & party time in the second half. Stephanie and Devin chose to greet their guests as they arrived at the venue, which is a great way to ensure you get a chance to say hi to everyone! I have observed this a few times now and believe it might become a trend. After an incredible (seriously 5-stars) buffet hosted by Barrett’s Quality Eats, the party opened up and we rocked till 10:30, and sent the wedding party off to the afterparty at Big Grove!

On March 28th we travelled northwards into Dubuque for Madison and Colin’s wedding. Again, I brought a lot of nervous energy and excitement into this one - Madison’s sister Jaxin got married just about one year ago and I was the DJ for her & her husband’s wedding. It’s an absolute privilege that I get to DJ for the same family once again, and I wanted to make absolutely sure that we brought the A-Game to the party. For this celebration we were working for only the Cocktail hour and reception, no ceremony.
7 Hills Ballroom was a super cool new venue to work at, I’ve actually had the chance to attend a wedding here back in 2024, for my wife’s cousin - Ironically it’s a little bit similar to the HarMac, with an industrial feel, brick walls, large floor space, all inside a historic building. But, swap out HarMac’s concrete columns + floors for wooden beams. Also, it’s a little less ‘square’ and is a little larger overall. Both venues provide a ‘slight’ challenge for loading in DJ equipment but that is 100% part of the job and I’m in decently good shape for lifting speakers 🙂
The party vibe let me lean into bringing out some heavy-hitting rock remixes and some ‘secret sauce’ DJ Nathan Kabat signature tracks that (hopefully) helped the dancefloor feel a little bit different!

What’s Next?
You can expect one of these per month for the remainder of 2026! Some months are busier than others, but I hope to provide some firsthand insight into what’s going on in my solo-DJ business journey! It’s an absolute privilege to help people celebrate their big day with a memorable party. I cannot wait to share more about the year as time goes on! Feel free to follow on IG for stories and sporadic posts throughout the year as well @djnathankabat :)
And for my fellow DJs (Thanks for reading to the end!!)
I’ve created a Skool group (free) where I’ll be sharing videos of dancefloor playlist breakdowns - each song once the party starts, with some brief insights into my thoughts, on-the-fly decision-making process, and hopefully you get some ideas for your own events! The link is right here:
We'll see you again in about a month with the April Rewind!
